|Thai massage - a challenger to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Thai government has asked the United Nations to recognize Thai massage as part of the country's cultural heritage.
In November 2019, the UN will consider entering a UNESCO massage on the UNESCO World Heritage List. If the decision is positive, then Thai massage or Nuad Thai will become the second property of Thailand in the World list. Last year, Thai masked dance Khon received the status of the World Intangible Property.
"Nuad Thai is part of the art, science and culture of traditional Thai health," the Government said in a statement.
Minister of Culture of Thailand, Mr. Vira Rojpoyanara:
"The Ministry of Culture has high hopes that UNESCO recognizes Thai massage as an important component of national culture. Currently, about 25 thousands of Thai citizens practice craft. Knowledge and skills of Thai massage, knowledge of the human body’s work has been accumulated over the centuries generation".
About 50 applications from all over the world claim to be on the UNESCO World Heritage List - performing arts, social practices, rituals and holidays.
