Involuntarily, tourists stomped on the beach and surrounding areas, while the boats that brought them to the famous beach threw anchors across the board, destroying natural coral. About a year ago, scientists, environmentalists and the Government of Thailand decided to close the Maya Bay to restore the ecology of the bay.
