"Evening in Old Siam" excursion from Pattaya
"Evening in Old Siam" is excursion program from Pattaya to one of the suburbs of Bangkok. We drove 100 kilometers from Pattaya and visited the temple-museum "Erawan". Then a small crossing through the city of Samut Prakan and arrive at the magnificent, largest park-museum in Thailand, Ancient Siam (or Muang Boran). This tour is also available for those staying in Bangkok. But pick-up time from hotel in Bangkok and return, the price will be different.
Erawan Museum in Bangkok
Temple-museum "Erawan" is a magnificent project of the Thai millionaire Hung Lek. Several very ancient Thai artifacts are exhibited in it. And it is inside a huge statue of a three-headed elephant, recognized as the largest in the World! This is just one of several major cultural projects organized by the aforementioned businessman. Among others, for example - Ancient Siam (Mueang Boram) and the Sanctuary of Truth.
The temple-museum is relatively new, its construction began in 1994, and already in 2005, the museum was open to the public. Seeing this construction with your own eyes, you will be shocked! A huge three-headed elephant is installed on a huge round-shaped building that rises in the middle of a beautiful park and fulfills the shape of a pedestal. Its height, if you count it with the pedestal - almost 45 meters! The length is 39 meters and the width is 12 meters. And the weight of this construction is about 250 tons.
Inside there are both elevator and spiral staircase, located respectively in the left rear and right rear leg. The tail of an elephant is a kind of "fire escape".
A huge statue of an elephant inside the concrete, outside sheathed in bronze sheets. In the pedestal and the statue of the elephant are located the premises of the museum. The museum itself consists of three levels, each of them in Buddhist mythology represents one of three worlds: the Earth, the top of Mount Meru, and Heaven. This museum is a kind of repository of artifacts from the collection of a millionaire patron. At the lower level, you can see rare ceramics. Also here are four huge columns that hold the building. They seem to symbolize the unity of the four religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism. The vault is decorated with very beautiful, unusual stained-glass windows, symbolizing the heavens. The author of the stained glass is the German artist, Jacob Schwarzkopf.
At the third level, nine ancient statues of Buddha, including the oldest wooden sculptures in the country, are stored directly inside the elephant. Everything around, and the walls and the dome - are painted by hand by famous European craftsmen.
The museum building is located in a tropical garden with beautiful plants, comfortable benches, flowing streams in the territory.
Mueang Boran - ancient city in Bangkok
The ancient city of Muang Boran! On the square the size of the state of the Vatican are more than 120 exact copies of the majestic architectural wonders of the Kingdom of Thailand. Some of them are made in full size, others are reduced three times. Their location in the park corresponds to the place of their real location in Thailand. The journey begins from South of Thailand and along the western border to the northernmost point, and then to the South-East on the territory of Isan.
Different names of the historical complex: Mueang Boram, or Mueang Boran - all this is not a mistake, but features of the perception of Thai by foreigners.
You can travel around Muang Boran park in different ways - drive through the park on a sightseeing bus or independently explore the area on an electric car, free open trams.
But the most convenient and useful - riding a bike! A lot of bicycle parking spaces are located in the most convenient places in the park. You can take a bike for free in one place, leave it and then take another bike in the next place, walking on interesting and picturesque paths and taking unique photos of architectural masterpieces.
Also on the channels ply free ships. From the water, a completely different species opens up. The ship sails to the ancient Royal Navy of Siam, located in the middle of a large lake. These are the originals! The huge boats, which traveled the Kings of Siam, are impressive!
One of the main attractions of the park is a copy of the Khmer Palace-Temple of Prasat Vihan, located on a mountain between Thailand and Cambodia in Isan under the protection of UNESCO. There are also many interesting living creatures awaiting the guests of the park in the local zoo, they can be fed and photographed.
Between sightseeing, you can visit the restaurants located on the floating market.
Wat Hong - temple in the sea
Towards evening, we move to the third masterpiece, a visit to which will complete our busy day. This is the unique "Temple at Sea", or Wat Khong. In the rays of the setting sun, it is extraordinarily beautiful, and from here a marvelous view of the Gulf of Siam, distant points of the coast, opens up from here. For example, are clearly visible Koh Sichang, Chonburi. With the onset of twilight everything appears in a completely different perspective.
